The emergency kit

A shoelace breaks - a replacement? A scraped knee - bandage it with a dirty handkerchief? Pin a note to a tree - but with what?

We encounter these and similar situations often enough. Then we are glad if we can help ourselves. The emergency kit is a little miracle box. Why don't we make one with the children?

What can I find in an emergency kit?
It is best to use a special aluminum emergency kit box for an emergency kit. This is exactly the right size.

The contents can be very individual, depending on use and needs. Here are some non-exhaustive suggestions:

• Dressing, neatly packed
• Gauze compresses
• Versch. Plasters
• Disinfectant stick
• Tweezers
• Small scissors
• Alcohol swab
• Insect stick
• Matches
• String 3-5 m
• Measuring cord 2 m, unbuttoned every 10 cm
• Candle
• Small pencil
• White chalk
• Paper clips
• Slugs
• Stamps
• Small change
• Tacks
• Miscellaneous nails
• Wire
• Sewing needles, pins, safety pins
• Black and white thread
• Wool
• Some buttons
• Basting plaster
• Adhesive tape
• Glue
• Spare shoe laces
• Sheet of paper

How do I pack the items?

Smaller items are packed in empty matchboxes. These are divided into small compartments with cardboard.

The thread is wound onto a notched piece of cardboard.

Sewing needles, pins and safety pins are pinned onto a piece of fabric.

Tape is rolled onto cardboard.

Glue a sheet of paper inside the lid with the name and address, list of contents and important telephone numbers such as doctor, Rega, Tox, etc

Making an emergency pack

Making an emergency kit is an excellent activity for a craft lesson with children. It is advisable to hand out an information sheet in advance so that the children can collect their own matchboxes and bring along the most important things. Then all you have to do is provide the craft materials and small items and the fun craft session can begin. So that we are prepared for bad times!
