Vikings were feared - but their curiosity and voyages of discovery still impress us today

2 group lessons with:

  • historical background
  • Time table
  • Handicraft suggestions
  • Games
  • a story to read aloud "An old Viking tells"

At the beginning of the modern era, these Norsemen were known and feared.

Today, we are only familiar with their atrocities or the nickname "Wicki".

The aim of the two designs is to show the young Vikings something of the courage and curiosity that led them to leave the cold north and embark on their voyages of discovery. They discovered Ireland and Greenland, settled in Ireland and England. Their sails were seen along the French and Portuguese Atlantic coasts. Their curiosity drove them as far as the Mediterranean and across the Atlantic to North America.
