A game of skill played with a five-liber coin for a cozy evening.

Everyone sits around a table.

Game Information

  • Age: 8+
  • Number of players: 5–10
  • Location: Home
  • Duration: 2–5 minutes per round
  • Materials: 1–3 five-liber coins (or two-franc coins for small hands)

Procedure

  1. Choose a detective.
  2. Secretly pass the five-liber coin under the table. Everyone else who doesn’t have the five-liber coin pretends they do and passes it along as well.
  3. After a while, the detective says “Stop.” Then the five-liber coin can no longer be passed on.
  4. This is followed by the command “Up,” and all players make a fist and rest their elbows on the table.
  5. The detective may then call out various gestures (see below), and the person holding the five-liber coin tries to perform them all without the detective noticing that they have the coin in their hand.
  6. To end the game, the detective commands “Up!” again (fist and elbow on the table)...
  7. This is followed by “Down!” All players slap their flat hands on the table, including the person holding the five-liber.
  8. Now the detective tries to find the five-liber coin. The player in whose possession the coin is found becomes the detective in the next round.

Characters

The various figures are shown here.

Bock / Doppelbock

Place all your fingers on the table, slightly spread apart.

For the double bock, do exactly the same thing, except that one bock is placed on top of the other.

Barrel / Double Barrel

Put your foot down.

For a double barrel, simply stack them on top of each other.

Wall

For the "Wall" pose, place both hands flat, one on top of the other.

Fish

For the "Fish" game, place both hands flat against each other.

You can pass the five-liber coin by “swimming” over another “fish” and letting the coin slide into the other “fish.”

When the “fish” is broken up, you can choose which hand to take the five-liber coin with.

Let's go!
