Comparison of a pegged elephant - Christian who does not reckon with promises from the Bible

Pegged elephants

You have probably admired the huge elephants in a circus. Have you noticed that these mighty animals are only tied to a relatively small peg? That is astonishing. Why are these colossi chained to such a ridiculous peg? You would think that the elephants could easily break free and free themselves. But why don't they try?

Here is the answer:

Even as babies, elephants were chained to a peg like this. At that time, the little elephant did not yet have that much strength and therefore could not free itself despite great efforts. He certainly tried many times, but the peg was simply stronger than he was. The more often he tried in vain to free himself, the more the baby elephant realized that he was helpless. He "believed" more and more that he would never make it - until he finally gave up. Elephants have a fabulous memory and it was now indelibly imprinted: "This peg is stronger than me, so I'd better not mess with it." As the elephant grew older and had the strength to break free, he didn't even try, because as a baby he had experienced a hundred, perhaps a thousand times that it was useless to resist.

And we ...

Satan tries to captivate us with the same strategy as the animal keeper trains the elephants. We have had experiences and now believe that these are unchangeable for a lifetime. I often hear the words: "Why should I count on promises from the Bible, they don't come true anyway!", "Why should I pray at all, it's no use anyway!" or "Why should I believe that God can heal me, he never has!" We allow Satan to take away our freedom without defending ourselves against it. The elephant would only have to shake his peg vigorously instead of believing that what he experienced in the past is still the case today. Then he would find out that the peg is no longer an obstacle for him today.

So let's have the courage to shake our pegs - because Jesus has called us to a life of freedom!
