In tent camps it is important to be able to build a functioning infrastructure. This article provides an overview of possible camp buildings. The camp buildings have to be adapted to different aspects:
camp duration, camp size, camp site, age of the participants, season and fun of building
It is very difficult to estimate how much load a rope may be subjected to. This article is intended to raise awareness that even modern ropes should not be tightened arbitrarily and to show which loads are permissible. (incl. Excel file)
The Sarasani is a large group tent, woven from military banners. A Sarasani can be built in a variety of sizes, depending on how many sheets are used and how tall the structure is.
The Sarasani is knotted from three squares of canvas. In theory, the shape of a Sarasani corresponds to a tetrahedron (pyramid with 3 edges).
The ridge tent is a tubular tent made from a rectangular tarpaulin or rectangular military sheets knotted together.
A ridge tent unit (2 military tarpaulins) offers space for 2-3 people.
Note: This article deals exclusively with the ridge tent as a military canvas bivouac with 2 canvases per unit.
The coffin is the most primitive military bivouac. It offers space for one person.
